Catechism – Paragraph #1404

Catechism Meditation:

The Church knows that the Lord comes even now in his Eucharist and that he is there in our midst. However, his presence is veiled. Therefore, we celebrate the Eucharist “awaiting the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ, “asking “to share in your glory when every tear will be wiped away. On that day we shall see you, our God, as you are. We shall become like you and praise you forever through Christ our Lord.  No. 1404

REFLECTION.  The Veil Removed is a powerful short film that reveals the coming together of heaven and earth at Mass, as seen by saints and mystics, revealed by scripture and in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. This film is beautifully shot and perfectly captures the most extraordinary event in all of history: Christ’s sacrifice of Calvary. Although not visible to us, according to Christian tradition, from the moment of the consecration, heaven opens, and a vast multitude of angels, saints, and the faithfully departed are present during the Holy Sacrifice of the Altar to adore Christ as the Sacrificial Lamb. In this continual sacrifice that transcends time and space itself, the film brilliantly displays the supernatural world with the natural world. It offers us a glimpse of what we believe with our hearts and minds but cannot see with our eyes: that Jesus is truly present in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and what we consume in the form of bread and wine is the Body and Blood of Christ our Savior.

I encourage all Catholics to watch this 7-minute short film. I particularly ask parents to show it to their children so they can visualize and better understand the reality of Holy Mass. The makers of the film wanted to produce a faithful representation of the beauty of the Eucharist, and they have done a great job. When Deacon Rick Golden shared this video with me, I began learning what happens behind the veil at Mass, and my whole Mass experience changed. It is the Lord’s desire to remind all people of the beauty and the truths of the Mass.

We must never forget that Holy Mass is a sacred and profound experience, and that the Eucharist is truly the ‘source and summit’ of our Faith.

PRAYER.  Lord Jesus Christ, I receive You under this sacred veil of the Holy Sacrament; I pray to one day see You face to face for all eternity. One God for ever and ever.

Timeless Wisdom Quote:

“The Mass is the greatest event in the history of mankind; the only Holy Act which keeps the wrath of God from a sinful world , because it holds the Cross between heaven and earth, thus renewing that decisive moment when our sad and tragic humanity journeyed suddenly forth to the fullness of supernatural life.” ― Venerable Fulton J. Sheen
