Pope Francis (1936-2025), born Jorge Mario Bergoglio, served as head of the Roman Catholic Church from 2013 until his death. He was the first pope from the Americas and the first Jesuit to lead the Church. His papacy was marked by efforts to reach marginalized communities and reform Church governance.
